What is the advantage of DOHC vs SOHC?
As SOHC has a single camshaft for both the inlet and exhaust valves, they have much lesser control in valve timing while in DOHC, the timings can be better optimized as there are separate shafts for inlet and exhaust valves. DOHC also allow better placement of valves as well as a spark plug.
Are SOHC engines good?
SOHC is more fuel-efficient since its power consumption is low. The spark plugs are not located at the center of the cylinder. They are not strategically located, thus hindering the performance of the SOHC engine. SOHC has a better low-end torque.
Why does Honda still use SOHC?
The biggest reason to use them is because DOHC engines are more expensive to produce (which price would get pushed back onto the consumer), there are more moving parts in them (which means they will fail sooner), and they can still do VTEC in either version.
Is my Subaru SOHC or DOHC?
ITs easy to tell, look at the plastic cover in the front of the engine, on each side of the motor there should be lumps, DOHC has 2 lumps (for the cam sprockets) on each side, sohc has 1.
What are the advantages of SOHC?
Highly efficient in design, a single overhead cam(SOHC) engine potentially generates a higher engine speed permitting greater revolution per minute(RPM) red lines than compared to older style pushrod-driven overhead valve (OHV) powerplants.
What does SOHC and DOHC stand for?
You may have seen the acronym DOHC, SOHC, or OHV when referring to a vehicles engine. To put it shortly, DOHC refers to Dual Overhead Camshaft, SOHC refers to Single Overhead Camshaft, and OHV refers to Overhead Valve.
What does DOHC Turbo mean?
Dual overhead cam engines are found in most modern vehicles today. They allow better airflow with less obstruction and are generally much more efficient engines than OHV or SOHC engines. Two camshafts operate 4 valves per cylinder, one separate camshaft for intake and exhaust valves.
