The California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) Motorcyclist Training Course (MTC) is designed for the novice rider with no (or limited) street riding experience and is required for those under 21 years old. This course includes both 5-hours of classroom and 10-hours on-cycle instruction.

CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLIST SAFETY PROGRAM (CMSP) The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is statutorily responsible for California’s official motorcyclist safety and training program. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code Sections 2930-2935, the CHP administers the CMSP through a primary contractor, currently Total Control Training Inc.
Is there a motorcycle safety course for New Riders?
The course is based on the most current research in rider safety and utilizes modern training methods. Though designed for new riders, any rider that has not taken a motorcycle safety course will benefit from this clinic. Motorcycles and helmets are provided in this course.
How much does a motorcycle training course cost?
The goal of the Motorcyclist Training Course is to teach and reinforce the knowledge and skills needed for safe beginning-riding on the street so that we might prevent crashes and injuries. The cost is $350 riders 21 years or older, $295 if you’re under 21.* Motorcycles are provided for the training!
