In my mind, a 160-grain bullet at 3,100 fps makes the best all-around 7mm Rem Mag load. That weight bullet has a trajectory within a couple of inches of the 140 grain out to 400 yards and packs more energy when it gets there. A stoutly constructed 160-grain also tears up less meat.
Do I need magnum primers for 7mm Rem Mag?
most powders that are developed for the magnum rifles need magnum primers to ensure the proper burn rate. But, if you use powders that are suited for smaller case capicities use standard primers. With my 7mm rem mag I use rl22 and imr 7828 with mag primers, when I use imr 3031 I use std primers.
