Who contributes to the Armed Forces Retirement Home?
We are a unique institution: an independent Federal agency designed to provide residences and healthcare to eligible veterans, yet our financial support is provided primarily by current service members and our residents rather than taxpayers.
How many residents are in the Armed Forces Retirement Home?
Military veterans from all service branches can live at either Home. A few less than 900 men and women, with an average age in the eighties, currently reside at the homes.
How is the Armed Forces Retirement Home funded?
Collected resident fees, financial gifts and donations, real property leasing revenue, certain fines and forfeitures levied under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and a mandatory payroll contribution of $0.50 per month (authorized to be no more than $1.00 per month) from all enlisted military servicemembers.
Who qualifies AFRH?
To live at the AFRH, you must be able to live independently upon admission. This means you must be able to care for your personal needs, attend a dining facility for meals, and keep all medical appointments. You must not have a felony conviction.
