At what age does Centrelink consider you independent from your parents?

If you’re 22 or older, we consider you independent. If you’re younger than 22 and it’s unreasonable for you to live at home we may consider you independent.
Can I get Centrelink if I live with my parents?
We assess your parents’ or guardians’ income even if you don’t live with them now. If you last lived with both parents, we’ll assess the income of the parent you ask us to. If you need to live away from their home you may get a higher payment rate.

How much can your parents earn to get student allowance?
How much you get will depend on your parents’ income. If their joint earnings are more than $57,545.28 a year before tax, the rate you get for Student Allowance goes down. You can’t get a Student Allowance if their joint earnings while you study are more than: $99,792.43 if you live with them.
Do you get student allowance during holidays?
You can’t get a benefit from Work and Income for the period you get Student Allowance. You’ll still get your Student Allowance payments over your study breaks if your break is 3 weeks or less. If you’ve been approved for Accommodation Benefit, this is paid automatically with your Student Allowance.

A student age 24 or older by Dec. 31 of the award year is considered independent for federal financial aid purposes.
Does parents income affect Youth Allowance?
Young people under the age of 22 can access the full rate of Youth Allowance if they are independent from their parents. However, if they’re still dependent, then a parental income test applies. You lose 20 cents for every dollar above that threshold that your parents earn.
