Can durock be used exterior?
Can USG Durock® Brand Cement Boards be used on the interior and exterior of buildings? Yes. They can also be used in below-grade applications such as basements.
Can you stucco over durock?
Bonding stucco to Durock is as easy as applying stucco to other surfaces. If you’ve mixed it too thin, the stucco won’t spread correctly. Stucco adheres to practically any surface that is properly prepared.
Can cement board be left outside?
Most brands of concrete backer-board consist of a fibrous reinforcement cement composition molded into sheets. It is extremely hard and waterproof, meaning it will not deteriorate over time when exposed to water, making it ideal for use in high-traffic areas that are susceptible to the adverse effects of moisture.
Can I stucco directly on cement board?
Apply stucco to cement boards with the help of a fiberglass mesh for adherence. One finish you can use on cement boards is stucco. Extensive preparation is necessary, but once completed, you’ll have a beautiful surface, suitable for further finishing by painting or left as-is for a raw plaster look.
Does concrete stick to cement board?

Do you mud and tape durock?
For tile backer boards such as Durock, Wonderboard, Hardiebacker, Permabase, and others the seams between the board need to be treated with 2-inch alkali-resistant mesh tape. Then a coat of thinset gets flat troweled over the seam. What this does is tie the two boards together and help prevent flexing.
Can I use DuraBond on cement board?
The Rule Book says that YES you do need a vapor barrier behind cement board. TRUE, if you use a topical waterproofing it is not necessary, you don’t want both. NEVER use DuraBond 90 or any other gypsum product in a shower :no:even if you are using a topical liquid waterproofing.
