Less blood and gore than a typical zombie movie — much of the violence takes place off screen — but there are many fast-paced zombie attacks and lots of shootings (including children) and explosions. The attacks are intense. Some characters commit suicide rather than become zombies.

There are many crowd scenes with running zombies, which aren’t scary, but the close-ups of humans transforming into zombies are. Nevertheless, there isn’t that much blood or gore; there’s also some cursing, large-scale destruction scenes, and of course lots of tense close calls with the undead.

Although it has less blood and gore than some other zombie movies, there is plenty to scare children under 13 years and even younger teenagers. It is therefore definitely not suitable for children under 13 years and not recommended for children under 15 years.

The DVD is the theatrical version. Quite frankly, despite a few minor scenes here and there, I didn’t notice the difference. World War Z is my favorite zombie movie. Brad Pitt is excellent as a UN investigator brought out of retirement to help find a solution to the world’s zombie problem.
