Should I defoliate outdoor weed?
As we mentioned earlier, cannabis plants actually store energy in their leaves for when they’re exposed to stress. Because outdoor plants are exposed to more consistent environmental stress (like droughts, storms, harsh winds, or temperature/humidity fluctuations) as well as pests, we don’t recommend defoliating them.
Does defoliation increase yields?
Pruning, or defoliation, is a technique that keeps your cannabis plants healthy and growing properly. By removing small amounts of foliage during various phases of the life cycle, growers can increase a crop’s yield and potency by allowing light to hit bud-producing nodes more directly.
What are fan leaves on a weed plant?
Fan leaves are the typically fingered leaves in cannabis plants, they are the bigger leaves that stick out of the plant. And even though most growers don’t know it, they’re the most important organ of the plant.
Where do buds grow on weed plants?
Cannabis plants enter the flowering phase when they stop developing foliage and begin to produce buds. However, the size of a plant has little to do with how many buds it will produce or how dense those buds will be when harvested. Buds develop on the plant’s nodes, commonly called bud sites.
Can I defoliate in Week 1 of flower?
Defoliation in flowering stage Arrived at this point we will defoliate plants twice: Once after the first week of flowering: Wait until first pistils appear (not one or two, you must notice the plant has fully started to flower). Remove all the big leaves you reach with your scissors, and leave the smaller ones.
What week should you defoliate Autoflowers?
it’s okay to defoliate during flowering (weeks 2-3) but only before the stretch is over, never trim leaves in late flower (after approx. week 8 from seed).
Can I defoliate in Week 2 of flower?
Arrived at this point we will defoliate plants twice: Once after the first week of flowering: Wait until first pistils appear (not one or two, you must notice the plant has fully started to flower). Remove all the big leaves you reach with your scissors, and leave the smaller ones.
Should I cut off big fan leaves?
Removing these fan leaves opens up light and produces better air exchange to the lower canopy. Healthy leaves at the bottom of the canopy should be kept to trap valuable light from being lost and wasted. The more quality light a flowering site receives, the larger it will grow and the faster it will mature.
When should I trim off fan leaves?
Usually, growers trim the fan leaves weeks before harvest, which is a period that leads to senescence, a phase in the plant cycle when the larger leaves start fading away. It is safe to start removing these dying leaves and continue until harvest. However, the main trimming processes commence after harvest.
Do you want male or female weed plant?
For the most part, the average home grower wants female cannabis plants. The ladies are the ones that produce the fattest, most resinous and most potent flowers – aka buds. Male cannabis plants are only desirable if someone wants to breed cannabis and save seeds (which is a whole other topic for another day).
Should you remove fan leaves during flowering?
Yes you should – but with the correct technique. A proper thinning will remove 20-40% of the mid to upper foliage every 5-7 days. Removing these fan leaves opens up light and produces better air exchange to the lower canopy.
