The race start is on Clarence Esplanade, just on the South Coast in Southsea, just south of Portsmouth.
Is there a cut off time for the Great South Run?
Unless specified on the events webpage, there are no cut off times. Unfortunately we are under pressure to open roads we have closed, so we do have a race sweep vehicle. This travels at a 17-minute mile pace.

Most people cannot maintain their one-mile pace when running 10 miles, so we cushion the average speed with 10:29 per mile. So the average runner will run 10 miles in 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour and 50 minutes.

EVENT. The Great South Run is one of the south coast’s biggest and best running events and it takes place in Portsmouth over a ten-mile route on Sunday. Dozens of Isle of Wight runners take part in the annual event and some of them are doing it for charity this year.
Is it OK to run 10K everyday?
Running 10K (or even about 5 miles) daily would be an excellent exercise regime, although one should really take a day or two off per week for recovery. Running has no risk factors with respect to health to speak of, although one should talk about exercise, fitness, and diet at the yearly physical.

When was the First Great South run in Portsmouth?
I run in the 1990 first Great South in Southampton after which the event came and remained in Portsmouth. Since then I marked notable birthdays e.g. 60th & 65th. The course scenery, location and atmosphere is spectacular. If travelling to the event I would recommend having a long weekend & making the most of the location.
When do the roads reopen for the Great South Run?
Roads are re-opened as soon as possible on a rolling basis but all roads will be re-opened by 14:00. If you arrive late use the city centre car parks and walk to the race start area.
