How does Framo pump work?
The Framo cargo pump is easy to operate. The hydraulic drive provides for a remote and local stepless capacity control through the Speed Torque Control (StC) valve on the pump’s top plate. The cargo pump can pump anything liquid, regardless of specific weight or viscosity.
What is cargo pump?
Cargo pumps are used to to load large volumes of fuel oil on cargo shipping vessels at the departure port and unload at the arrival destination. The cargo oil pumps installed to complete this transfer of are usually screw pumps or gear pumps thanks to their ability to handle lubricating fluids.
Who is the founder of Framo pump?
Frank Mohn
The organization known today as Framo was founded as Frank Mohn AS in Bergen, Norway in 1938.
How do you start a portable Framo pump?
Start the portable pump by turning the handwheel on the starting head antiC clockwice. Discharge capacity will increase if the back pressure is reduced to a minimum. If possible use the portable pump to transfer the cargo to another cargo tank and discharge the cargo ashore with the main cargo pump.
Where is framo pump used?
Framo cargo pump is designed for any cargo temperature prevailing in tankers. The pump is continuosly temperature controlled by the circulating hydraulic drive oil. The Framo cargo seal arrangement is exposed to static cargo tank pressure only.
How vacuum drain is done in Framo pump?
The vacuum drain line is equipped with a nozzle. The nozzle mixes the remaining liquid in the drain line with the internal tank atmosphere. This will reduce the weight of the liquid column. Consequently, the remaining liquid column can be emptied by means of a “vacuum” system on deck.
Why vacuum drain is there in Framo pump?
The standard Framo cargo pump design meets all applicable rules for stripping under the IMO Annex II requirements. However, as an option, the Framo cargo pump can be equipped with a vacuum drain line that will empty suction well completely and allow for a dry tank top and quick re-loading of cargo.
How vacuum drain is done in Framo pumps?
What are the types of pump usually found onboard ship?
Positive Displacement pump:
- Reciprocating Pump.
- Screw pump.
- Gear pump.
- Piston pump.
- Ram type pump.
- Vane pump.
What is the main difference between the way a positive displacement pump and a centrifugal pump work?
The main difference between these types of pumps and centrifugal is that positive displacement pumps will move fluid at the same speed regardless of the pressure on the inlet end and centrifugal pumps will not.
What is the most important check to do on a framo submerged cargo pump and why?
Purging of the cofferdam is one of the most important operations to be done when operating a submerged Framo Cargo Pump. This is because the only way to check the pumpTs seals, and thus the conditions of the pumps, is by purging possible leakages in the cofferdam.
