It is recognised as one of the UK’s finest performing arts colleges, rated Outstanding by Ofsted and accredited by the Council for Dance Education and Training (UK). In 2015, The Stage named Urdang one of the best places to study degree level musical theatre.
What are Urdang looking for?
For all of its courses, Urdang looks for candidates with talent, ambition and personality who are committed, disciplined and hardworking. Potential and personality are as equally valued as previous experience and attainment. We are looking for raw talent that shines, as well as talented students with previous training.
What year did Urdang move to Covent Garden?
Today. In October 2005 the Finsbury Town Hall was acquired by The Urdang Academy. A long established performing arts school that was formerly based in Covent Garden. Urdang restored the building before relocating there in January 2007.
Where do Urdang students live?
Generally our students do not live in high-priced Islington, but in other more affordable surrounding areas. The Academy’s central location makes it incredibly accessible, with London’s world-class transportation network making it quick and easy to reach Urdang by bus, underground or train.
How many students does urdang have?
In 2018-19, the Academy enrolled 90 students on the BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre programme and 61 students on the Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre or Professional Dance. In 2017-18, the student population for the higher education programmes was 407.
How hard is it to get a dance scholarship?
Dance scholarships are highly competitive, and students are often required to participate in a number of auditions before final awards are given.

How long is the AVT at Urdang Academy?
This is an intensive five-day course designed for students interested in auditioning for professional vocational colleges, culminating in a mock audition with feedback, for students 14-21. As a funded two-year specialist pre-vocational course, the AVT will best prepare you for entry to high level diploma and degree courses in performing arts.
How long does it take to confirm Urdang place?
Urdang will confirm the outcome of your audition or recall via e-mail. If you are successful you will be emailed a letter offering one of the following: A confirmed place on the 16-18 AVT Level 3 Diploma – conditional on academic qualifications 13. You must then log in confirm or reject your place within 14 days.
