What is a NOMEX shirt?

NOMEX® is a meta aramid fiber manufactured by DuPont. For clothing applications, it is offered as NOMEX® IIIA, a blend of 93% NOMEX®, 5% KEVLAR®, and 2% static dissipative fiber. Applications: Petrochemicals, utilities, military applications, auto racing, volunteer and professional fire fighters.

What is NOMEX commonly used for?

Applications. Nomex Paper is used in electrical laminates such as circuit boards and transformer cores as well as fireproof honeycomb structures where it is saturated with a phenolic resin. Honeycomb structures such as these, as well as mylar-Nomex laminates, are used extensively in aircraft construction.

What type of textile is NOMEX?

The NOMEX material of Euro Air is woven in a twill weave using staple fibres to ensure largest possible textile surface and uniform air permeability. CONSTRUCTION: Heatset, shrinkage- and permeability-stabilized material.

What is the difference between NOMEX and FR?

NOMEX is a treated, light-weight material made by DuPont for garments with certain, specific flame-resistant characteristics. FR clothing can also contain 100% cotton, in different weights (usually 7 oz. or 9 oz.), as well as blends of other fabrics.

Is Tecasafe better than Nomex?

Thanks to the bio-cellulosic fibres inherent in the fabric, TenCate Tecasafe® Plus fabrics are extremely comfortable to wear. This is because they offer significantly better moisture-regulating properties than synthetic aramid fibres, such as Nomex®. And they dry faster than FR-treated cotton.

How expensive is Nomex?

Compared to other types of thread, Nomex is very expensive. Unfortunately, our newer stock is priced at over $200 per pound.

Is Nomex hot to wear?

Although Nomex burns when you hold a flame up to it, it stops burning as soon as the heat source is removed. In other words, it is inherently flame resistant. Just as important, the thick woven structure of synthetic fibers is a very poor conductor of heat.

What is Nomex fabric made of?

Nomex® is a product of industrially-manufactured aromatic polyamide (aramid) fibers known to have beneficial flame-resistant (FR) properties. The material has highly effective filtration and insulation applications suitable for thermal protective apparel.

Is Nomex breathable?

The proprietary fiber technology of Nomex® Comfort is lightweight, highly breathable and quick drying, resulting in the most comfortable FR PPE yet. Nomex® Comfort fabric is engineered to absorb and hold significantly less moisture than fabrics made with cellulosic fibers such as cotton and viscose.

Is Nomex stronger than Kevlar?

The Kevlar filament will provide excellent thermal stability; equal to or better than Nomex. And the tensile strength of Kevlar filament is four times that of Nomex. Kevlar is a great fiber for both strength and fire resistance; unfortunately, it is not for moisture management.
