How do I donate my hair to Locks of Love?

Once your hair is up, the hair simply needs to be trimmed just above the ponytail or braids, so that the holder does not slip off. A standard pair of scissors is all you need to make this cut. Hair that was cut off in the past is usable so long as it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.

Who benefits from Locks of Love?

Our recipients are financially disadvantaged children, age 21 and under, suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Most of our children suffer from an autoimmune disorder called alopecia areata, which causes the hair follicles to shut down.

Does Locks of Love take hair?

Anyone can cut your hair. We encourage all of our donors to go to a salon they are already familiar with to ensure their comfort when donating.

Is Locks of Love accepting hair right now?

All hair textures are welcome but only some organizations, like Hair We Share, will take gray hair. And a good number of charities require hair that’s never been colored, permed, or relaxed, but a few like Locks of Love and Pink Hearts Fund accept dyed donations as long as they’re otherwise in good shape.

Why should I not donate my hair to Locks of Love?

Shorter hair will be separated from the ponytails and sold to offset the manufacturing costs. Because Locks of Love creates custom hairpieces for each child, we cannot accept donations of wigs, falls, hair extensions, or synthetic hair.

35.5cm (14in) is the hair length required to create wigs in order for the hair to be processed. 1-2cm shorter is okay to donate, but the longer the donation the better!
