Can insulin VetPen?
The First and Only Insulin Pen for Dogs & Cats VetPen® makes giving insulin injections to pets simple and accurate. For years, insulin pens have enabled humans to manage their diabetes simply and accurately. VetPen allows pet owners to enjoy the same convenience and accuracy when managing their pet’s diabetes.
Are insulin cartridges interchangeable?
Our experience is that generally insulin cartridges are not interchangeable, although there could be a few exceptions. However, drawing attention to these exceptions causes confusion among diabetic patients, which can result in accidents.
How do you administer VetPen?
Tap the cartridge gently with your finger a few times to push any air bubbles to the top of the cartridge. Push and hold the release button towards the needle until the arrow (▶) on the pen body points to the starting line(—) on the dose selector. VetPen™ should be used only after consultation with your veterinarian.
How long does a VetPen last?
When all the insulin has been used, simply remove the empty cartridge and insert a new one. Please note that sterile needles are designed for single use only and should not be reused. Tests show that VetPen lasts for at least 3,000 uses.
Is there an alternative to insulin injections for dogs?
In addition to ProZinc, Vetsulin (porcine insulin zinc suspension) is also approved for use in dogs. The FDA cautions veterinarians and pet owners about the use of unapproved, compounded insulin products, which have not been evaluated for safety and effectiveness.
How do you use VetPen on cats?
There are six simple steps for using the VetPen.
- Insert the cartridge.
- Attach the needle to the VetPen.
- Prime the VetPen – remove any air bubbles.
- Select the dose by dialling the dose selector.
- Inject the dose by pressing the release button.
- Remove the needle following injection.
What happens if Lantus is not refrigerated?
Should Lantus freeze, it should be discarded. If refrigeration is not available, unopened Lantus may be stored at controlled room temperature (≤86°F, ≤30°C) for a maximum of 28 days. Lantus should be discarded 28 days after first use, regardless of refrigeration.
What pen does Lantus cartridge use?
AllStar® is a reusable pen for the injection of insulin. AllStar® can only be used with Sanofi 3 mL (300 units) insulin cartridges (U-100) from Sanofi Group.
Can you reuse VetPen needles?
Can VetPen needles be reused? No – as with all sterile needles, they are designed for single use only. A new needle should be used for each injection. Immediately after use, the needle should be removed with the needle remover and safely disposed of.
How long will a Caninsulin cartridge last?
The effect is maintained by the crystalline fraction, which has a slower onset of action and peak effects around 11 hours following injection. The duration of activity of Caninsulin generally ranges from 14-24 hours in dogs2.
Can a diabetic dog survive without insulin?
Although a dog can go a day or so without insulin and not have a crisis, this should not be a regular occurrence; treatment should be looked upon as part of the dog’s daily routine. This means that you, as the dog’s owner, must make both a financial commitment and a personal commitment to treat your dog.
